Accent and Intelligibility: Breaking through your Communication Barriers (AAI1/23-24)
Do you feel self-conscious when interacting with fellow schoolmates or teachers who are native English speakers? Do you want to improve your English accent so that you can communicate with others more fluently?
Here is the chance for you to learn more and to practice with a registered speech and language therapist, so that you can interact with native English speakers more effectively.
This workshop is designed to improve your English accent and increase your speech intelligibility.
After this workshop, YOU WILL BE ABLE:
- To gain a general understanding on the concept of accent and intelligibility
- To learn about the benefits of increased speech intelligibility in campus and social life
- To better understand how certain sounds in English are made and how this commonly affect intelligibility
- To gain knowledge about available or prospective services for improving your accent and intelligibility

Impromptu Speaking Skills Workshop Series
Many of you can speak clearly and confidently when talking to people who are nice and friendly.
But
- Can you communicate with people who have opposite viewpoints?
- Do you know how to respond to criticism?
- Do you know how to talk with argumentative people?
- Can you handle people venting their anger at you?
This workshop series will help you build your English communication skills and self-confidence needed to handle difficult situations where you are required to speak up for yourself without much time for preparation. In these highly interactive workshops, you will learn how to express yourself assertively and respond to challenging conversations appropriately.

At the end of the workshops, you will have:
- Acquired the skills for improving your impromptu English speaking skills
- Built up confidence in handling difficult situations
- Gained opportunities to practice assertive communication
