PS. I See You – A Zoom Dating Experience (CSP2/22-23)

Have you been trying to join our Speed Dating but had no luck?

Our online version of “A Simple Speed Dating Experience” was a huge success last year. At the beginning of the new semester, we would like to provide you with the opportunity again to connect with people when you are just staying where you are. This virtual meetup allows you to meet people, get to know them and interact with them in a brand-new “blind-date” setting. It also facilitates your self-understanding and how you connect with others beyond the idea of “judging a book by its cover”. Be ready to get a little surprise at the end of this event as well!

After this online meetup, YOU ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE:

  • Gained exposure to meet people online
  • Known more of your view on dating relationship
  • Polished your communication skills with people you just met online

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help given to someone who is developing or experiencing a mental health crisis before he or she can obtain professional treatment.

If you would like to help your peers who are developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, you can prepare yourself through enrolling in a MHFA training course.

Upon completion of this 12-hour training course, YOU WILL HAVE LEARNT:

  • 5 MHFA Action Plans
  • Basic knowledge about mental health problems and strategies to manage related crisis situations
  • Counselling services and other support on campus

A certificate recognized by the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong will be awarded to participants with FULL attendance.

Psychological First Aid Training (PFA1/22-23)

Want to know more about the impact on people’s mental health brought by traumatic events?
Want to help your friends who have traumatic experiences?
Want to provide psychological support to your peers more effectively?

If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions, this 3-hour training on psychological support is a workshop you can’t miss. The workshop will cover topics such as psychological reactions to traumatic events, introduction to Psychological First Aid (PFA), and basic principles and skills for facilitating psychological recovery.

  • Known the psychological responses to traumatic incidents
  • Learnt the guiding principles of PFA and its applications
  • Practiced empathy as a way to providing psychological support to others

Master Your Worries

Can’t stop worrying about different things?
Have you or someone around you thought that you have been worrying too much?
Would you like to know how to spare yourself from excessive worrying so that you can study or enjoy your life better?

This 1-hour workshop is designed to share with you effective ways to manage worries. It addresses the association between worries and mild to moderate anxiety, using the evidence-based Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Approach.

Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (LICBT) is a short-term, present-focused, scientific, structured approach to help people manage common mental health problems. Psychological Well-being Officers (PWOs) at CEDARS-CoPE are responsible for providing assessment and treatment with LICBT for students.

At the end of the session, YOU WILL:

  • Understand the nature of anxiety and some common worry patterns
  • Learn effective skills to manage your worries
  • ***Receive individual follow-up on phone offered by our Psychological Well-being Officers at CEDARS-CoPE for personalized feedback

Good Night, Sleep Tight

Can’t get to sleep all night? Feeling and looking tired all the time? Want some tips to have a better sleep?

This 1-hour workshop is going to introduce sleep hygiene and effective ways to manage sleep problems to you, using the evidence-based Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Approach.

Talk Your Way Out of Any Hot Spot – Improving Your Impromptu English Speaking Skills (IES1/22-23)

Many of you can speak clearly and confidently when talking to people who are nice and friendly. But:

  • Can you communicate with people who treat you like a child
  • Can you handle complaints
  • Do you know how to talk with argumentative people
  • Can you handle people venting their anger at you

This workshop will help you build your English communication skills and self-confidence needed to handle difficult situations where you are required to speak up for yourself without much time for preparation. In this highly interactive workshop, you will learn how to speak English smoothly and give quick and appropriate responses.

About the trainers:
Amiya Nagpal is an educator, performer and writer from Dubai, based in Hong Kong. Amiya has 5+ years experience teaching young people and adults across a range of fields and subjects. She hopes to facilitate her students’ academic and personal goals through discursive lessons based around reading, research and lots of questions! She also incorporates her drama background into her work by including public speaking, interactive activities and world building as learning tools. Amiya holds a BA in Human, Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge, and a Certificate in Speech and Drama from LAMDA.

Heather Cooper is from England where she studied dance and drama, obtaining a BTEC National Diploma with Distinction from Stafford College and a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts from Bath Spa University. She was the Drama Co-ordinator at Diocesan Boys’ School for eight years and built up the Drama department. During her time in this position she produced, wrote, directed and acted in several productions. Two of the productions were awarded the adjudicators award in the Hong Kong Drama Festival. Heather has her own company writing original musicals for schools. She has also appeared as an actress in Hong Kong for productions of West Side StoryOne Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and Doubt.

In this workshop, you will engage in a story-telling process through reviewing your experience of fulfilment, activities that interest you most, the moment you felt proud of yourself or even trivial memories in daily life. This discovery of personal stories will facilitate your self-understanding on career interest and enhance decision making in future.

  • Become clearer about your interest through story-telling process
  • Connect your interest with academic and career development
  • Start to rebuild a motivated and passionate self

One Day in Theatre: Killer Thriller (MPT2/22-23)

Come spend one day in the theatre of you performing on stage and watching a live theatre performance by professional actors.

The day will start with a three-hour workshop in the morning in the theatre. Facilitated by The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTEC)’s Artistic Director Dr Vicki Ooi, participants will take part in a series of theatre games empowering themselves in terms of their confidence, as well as enhancing their communication and collaborative skills. With Dr Ooi’s original play Killer Thriller, participants will have a chance to perform selected scenes from the play on stage with professional technical support and the real set-up.

When the participants return to the theatre after the lunch break, they will watch the professional stage performance of Killer Thriller. Killer Thriller focuses on the world’s fear of an international biological attack caused by a living organism that could cause death and economic disruption. Alex and his friend, the Dwarf, set out to stop an unscrupulous organisation from selling a biological weapon to the highest bidder. If they fail, will the world be devastated by the biological explosion? A roller coaster of thrills, spills and laughs.

Drama cultivates self-belief and resilience to give you tools for greater confidence in your daily life. Don’t miss this precious opportunity for a theatre workshop & performance in a professional theatre setting!
