Active listening isn’t just good for finding potential romantic partners. It helps in more situations than you would think otherwise: job interviews, negotiations, or casual social interactions, just to name a few.
The purpose of this workshop is to introduce the participants to the idea of active listening, as well as various practical techniques that enable the participants to not only better understand others, but also to guide a conversation as a listener.
At the end of the workshop, you will have learnt how to:
- Better grasp the main gist of what is being said
- Make a better impression on people you meet
- Steer a conversation towards desired topics or destinations
- Achieve all of the above in within different time-frames

Networking Workshop (NWW1/22-23)
There is a Chinese saying which goes something like “it’s better to know the right people than to know the right words.”
Networking has always been an important ingredient for success, but it is more crucial and complex than ever in today’s world of interconnecting networks.
This workshop covers a wide range of networking aspects: from the basics, such as tips on attire and voice projection, how to cold approach someone, to how to build and sustain a personal network of your own.
At the end of this workshop, you will will have learnt how to:

- Make cold approaches in different scenarios
- How to stay active in social situations and proactively create multiple connections

Accent and Intelligibility: Breaking through your Communication Barriers (AAI1/22-23)

The behavioural pattern of procrastination can be counterproductive and hinders you from achieving what you want. Nevertheless, there are effective ways to deal with procrastination. Join this workshop to start learning ways to handle the stress brought about by avoidance and get things done.

Master Your Worries (MYW1/22-23)
Can’t stop worrying about different things?
Have you or someone around you thought that you have been worrying too much?
Would you like to know how to spare yourselves from excessive worrying so that you can study or enjoy your life better?
This one-hour workshop is designed to share with you effective ways to manage worries. It addresses the association between worries and mild to moderate anxiety, using the evidence-based Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Approach.
Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (LICBT) is a short-term, present-focused, scientific, structured approach to help people manage common mental health problems. Psychological Well-being Officers (PWOs) at CEDARS-CoPE are responsible for providing assessment and treatment with LICBT for students.
At the end of the session, YOU WILL:
- Understand the nature of anxiety and some common worry patterns
- Learn effective skills to manage your worries
- ***Receive individual follow-up on phone offered by our Psychological Well-being Officers at CEDARS-CoPE for personalized feedback
You are also welcome to join our 4-week 30-minute open group! We will focus on one common worry faced by HKU students in each session, and practice the worry management skills together. Introduction to Physical Theatre (MPT1/22-23)
Physical theatre is a tool that builds self-confidence through a feeling of trust in one’s own abilities and judgment. Physical theatre teaches you vocal skills through breathwork and projection. More importantly, it teaches you to be more conscious of your physicality.
Think of the way you stand. Does it give you confidence? Experiment with different ways of standing. How does it feel?
Drama cultivates self-belief and resilience to give you tools for greater confidence in your daily life. In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn the fundamental techniques of physical theatre and apply them to improvisation and devising your own theatrical output.
