Learn the science and strategies of cultivating and enhancing positive emotional experiences in life.
Psychological pain and suffering seem to be inevitable in human life. Human brain also appears to have a greater sensitivity to dangers and unpleasant events for survival purposes. The question is, then, when moments such as joy, awe, and excitement do arrive, what should we do to fully enjoy these positive emotional experiences? How should we reminisce and expand these positive moments of our life? This workshop aims to introduce savouring strategies and guide students to notice, cultivate, and enhance positive emotional experiences in life.
Through the experiential activities in the workshop, students will be able to:
- become more aware of their positive and negative thinking patterns;
- learn strategies to notice, cultivate, and enhance positive emotional experiences in life.

10. Taster Programme on Life Education through Horticultural Activity (生命教育@園藝體驗活動) (LEH1/17-18) NEW
For many seeing greens such as trees and grassland outdoor or even growing a small plant in indoor environment can calm one’s mind for a second. The power of Green is beneficial to human beings not just in an aesthetic sense but also in relieving stress and understanding the life of human nature.
In this taster workshop, “plant” is the core elements being taken as the main media for understanding the meaning of life cycle and for connecting to the miracle of natural environment. In a stress-free and non-judgmental atmosphere, you will be given some plant related materials to taste and construct plant products by yourself.
At the end of the workshop, you will have:
- had some fun and relieved some pressure
- Felt empowered by interacting with plants/ plant materials

About the trainers: Mr. Paul Choy and Ms. Michelle Leung are registered Horticultural Therapist in Taiwan. They had conducted a lot of Horticultural Therapy (HT) Groups, Taster Programmes, Training Workshops and Community Based Education Programmes in the past two years in Hong Kong. They have solid experiences working with young people, adults, parents, children and people with special educational need (SEN) using HT approach. In addition, they had been invited by Social Welfare Department, Hospital Authority and some NGOs to conduct staff training programmes using HT theoretical approach in social services setting.
11. Quality Sleep – Rise and Shine (QS2/17-18)
This workshop will focus on insomnia, which means the difficulty in falling asleep and/ or maintaining sleep. A variety of activities, such as relaxation exercise, will be arranged to facilitate the learning of simple and effective ways to improve your sleep.
At the end of the workshop, you will have:
- enhanced your basic understanding of sleep, e.g. possible causes of your sleep problem
- learnt ways to improve your sleep, e.g. by practising relaxation exercises

Arts is life. Life is arts. We all have experienced the power of arts (e.g. visiting gallery, painting, playing music and enjoying drama) where we could find the joy and peace in heart. In this workshop, arts is being taken as the main media for self-expression and communication. In a stress-free and non-judgmental atmosphere, you will be given various arts materials to explore your inner recourses and have great fun with your peers.

About the trainer: Ms Maria Pang is a registered art psychotherapist in UK. She graduated from the Master of Art Psychotherapy in Goldsmiths Collage, University of London. She also attained the Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology, Postgraduate Diploma of Education and Bachelor of Arts. She is also the professional member of Hong Kong Association of Art Therapists.
Over the 10 years, she has been working for students with different educational needs, patients with mental distress, chronic illness or intellectual disabilities, as well as women having children with special needs and those in domestic violence. She also devoted herself in promoting the power of art therapy with her 1000> pieces of collage art. Art exhibitions have been held in HKU, CUHK and JCCAC recently.
14. Good Mood Group (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Group on Mood Regulation) (CBT1/17-18) (CBT2/17-18)
This is a 4-session psycho-educational group based on cognitive behavioural approach, focusing on mood regulation. The group meets once a week to learn evidence-based strategies for managing mild mood symptoms. It is specially designed for students with low mood and mild anxieties, led by trained peer instructors who are supervised by qualified Clinical Psychologist. It will involve interactive activities, in-session exercises and homework feedbacks. Priority will be given to students who are not receiving counselling at present. By the end of the group you will:
- have more awareness of your emotions
- have enhanced understanding of the relationship of your emotions, thoughts and behaviours
