Application for Camp Tutors

Roles and Responsibilities of Camp Tutors

  1. You will lead and accompany the children to enjoy the camp on two Saturdays in HKU;
  2. You will organise and lead at least one of the below camp activities with other HKU students in small teams:
    • Warm-up and ice-breaking activity;
    • Workshop to introduce HKU, share your HKU student life, and tips on learning;
    • Campus Tour, and
    • Small Team Projects.
  3.  You will serve as role models and provide positive influences and aspirations for the children.

 
Requirements
Full-time HKU students who:

  1. Can design, lead and organise interesting learning activities in English to engage children;
  2. Responsible, committed and can complete all the activities listed under the below Programme Schedule;
  3. Can contribute time, knowledge and skills to empower the children; and
  4. Are capable of teamwork.

 
Programme Schedule (2021-22 First Semester Round)
Camp Tutors are expected to complete the activities as shown below.
(Format and dates of the activities are subject to changes in response to pandemic and social situations, weather conditions and any other unexpected factors.)

Part A

Briefing Session
(either one session)

Date: 29 Sep (Wed) or 30 Sep (Thu)

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Part B

Training Workshops
(face-to-face at HKU)

 

Note:

  1. 11-15 October is HKU reading week.
  2. Workshops 2 to 4 are organised in collaboration with the Centre for Applied English Studies (CAES) of HKU and camp tutors must choose to join two of the 3 workshops.

Workshop 1: Team Building and Skills on Leading Activities for Children (Compulsory)

Date: 5 Oct (Tue)

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Workshop 2: Leading Activities in English*

Date: 12 Oct (Tue)

Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Workshop 3: Using English to Facilitate and Moderate Small Group Learning of Children*

Date: 15 Oct (Fri)

Time: 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Workshop 4: Understanding Children’s Need and Tips on Interacting with them, Classroom Management and Collecting Children’s Learning Feedback*

Date: 15 Oct (Fri)

Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Workshop 5: Drill on Leading Camp Activities for Children (Compulsory)

Date: 6 Nov (Sat)

Time: 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Part C

Team Work on Activity Design and Submission of Camp Activity Proposal
(Warm-up activity, Workshop, or Campus Tour)

Part D

Language Enrichment Camp for Children

Date: 13 Nov and 20 Nov, 2021 (Sat)

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Part E

Feedback on Learning

Submit before 3 Dec, 2021 (Fri)

 

How to Apply

Please apply at: http://wp.cedars.hku.hk/form/ETG-camptutors on or before 12 noon, 21 September (Tuesday). Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview on 23 September (Thu) or 27 September (Mon). All selected Camp Tutors MUST attend:

  • (1) Briefing Session at 7:00 p.m. on either 29 Sep (Wed) or 30 Sep (Thu), and
  • (2) Training workshops 1 and 5 on 5 October and 6 November, AND any two workshops on 12 October and/or 15 October.

 
 
Rewards
Camp Tutors with satisfactory performance and attendance will receive the following rewards:

  1. An honorarium of HK$1,000 with 100% attendance of all activities;
  2. A certificate of participation with 80% attendance of all activities; and
  3. CEDARS reward points.
