Indigo Dyeing Workshop @ Tai O

It was great to learn about the history of indigo, and how it has changed from an industry to a cultural craft. One of our group members from the Philippines also shared with us a handicraft called Inabel, a traditional weaving native to the Ilocano region in the Philippines.

DIY Love Lock Workshop @ Cheung Chau

The biggest part of our Cheng Chau experience was to make a wooden love lock with all our names written on it! We then hung the lock on the love lock wall, which is in bright and cheery colours. We learnt about the phrases to express love, cultures and traditions of different countries and even some words in Cantonese!

Lamma Fisherfolk’s Village

It was a nice trip to experience the local fishing culture on Lamma Island. We had so much fun playing the hookless fishing games and decorating the graffiti artwork. One of the most interesting things we tried were the shrimp paste cookies, something that we may never try again!

Ngong Ping Cable Car Ride

The cable car ride was impressive as it offered a spectacular view of Lantau Island from the cabin. After the ride, we visited cultural heritage sites such as the Big Buddha, Po Lin Monastery, and the Ngong Ping Piazza. The Buddha is huge but not scary at all. We learnt more about the culture of Buddhism and its influence in Hong Kong.

Tai Tong Organic EcoPark

We participated in DIY workshops, rode on quad bikes, went on pony rides, and fed horses and goats at the park. The EcoPark is one of the very few places in Hong Kong where we can see animals up close! The DIY workshops were the most soothing activities at the tour, in which we could chat with our group members relaxingly.

Go Green Organic Farm

We joined a workshop on making pineapple pies and juice, through which we learnt about pineapple farming and the agriculture of Hong Kong. We saw alpacas for the first time and had the opportunity to feed goats and rabbits. Then, we went cycling around Nam Sang Wai, a beautiful wetland near Yuen Long. This cultural tour gave us a glimpse of the other side of Hong Kong being an eco-friendly city.
