Fundamentals to Effective Public Speaking and Networking (EPS2/20-21)
This compact and entertaining workshop will cover the fundamentals of two disparate topics: Public Speaking and Networking.
Both are vital to success in many enterprises today, not only commercial enterprises but in academia and socially too. Both require practice and even though some of us are apparent naturals at Public Speaking and at Networking the less gifted will be pleased to know that acquired skills and experience are frequently more important than innate raw talent. (Even Churchill was not a born orator.)
This workshop is for those who need to get out of their shell and get some experience under their belt. The course is entirely in English and will give all participants an opportunity to role play in a range of public speaking and networking scenarios. After the 6-hour workshop, you should be more proactive and confident when you stand in the limelight “on the stump” or in a “meet and greet” session.
Note: Participants will need to wear semi-formal clothes. No shorts or flip flops please; we want to make a good first impression. (BTW…Churchill didn’t wear flip flops!) Handouts will be issued for each activity. Mobile phones should be brought to class fully charged. One activity involves the use of a smart phone video if participants have this facility available.
At the end of the workshops, YOU SHOULD:
- know the key factors for effective public speaking
- have enhanced confidence in speaking to a larger audience
- be more conversant with the “rules” and conventions of networking and socializing in a variety of contexts other than the workplace
- feel more familiar with, and be at ease in networking environments
- be more aware of some of the pitfalls that can be avoided while networking and socializing
